      The Wellness program at La Jolla Country Day School is committed to improving the overall healthy emotional development and well-being of students, educators and staff. Through education, programming and partnership with trained professionals, the program promotes and normalizes conversations about mental health and wellness. We are seeking a part-time nurse to join our team. This part-time position, with a work schedule ranging from 10-20 hours a week, will collaborate with our full-time nurse in the coordination and assistance in the care, assessment, and treatment of our students. The nurse team serves as a liaison with parents when it comes to the health and welfare of their children.


      In conjunction with our full-time nurse, this individual provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. They identify problems and health concerns, and provide services such as case finding, health education, referring and care to help prevent serious health problems. This role supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students and the wellness of the school community.

      They will:

      • Promote and protect the optimal health status of students

      • Provide health assessments:

        • Obtain a health history

        • Observe the student for development and health patterns in making nursing assessment

        • Identify abnormal health findings

      • Interpret the health status of students to parents and school personnel

      • Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students

      • Maintain, evaluate, and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students

      • Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases (i.e., Covid-19 etc.)

      • Serve as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction

      • Assist in coordinating health, emergency, allergy and annual physical documentation for the health office and for divisions as needed

      • Substitute for the full-time nurse on occasion

      • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/classroom work environment, with typical office/classroom noise and other disruptions

      • May regularly come into contact with blood/body fluids, illness/disease

      • Both sitting and standing are required during a regular workday

      • Normal vision and hearing abilities are required to interact with students, parents, faculty, and staff, and with school equipment

      • Noise level is usually moderately quiet; however, variations in noise level may occur when the employee attends school functions such as assemblies, school dances, and other events

      • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs

      • Ability to work at desk and computer screen for extended periods of time

      • Ability to turn, bend and reach

      • Ability to move oneself around the campus

      • Position requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, multitasking, and writing


      Physical presence on campus is required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this role.

      Position Requirements

      • Nurse Practitioner and/or Registered Nurse with a bachelor’s degree in a related field

      • Pediatric experience is preferred

      • CPR and BLS certification is required

      • Independent School experience is highly desirable


      To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, and be able to learn to use other applications and hardware (Blackbaud, Apple TV, On Record, Blackboard, etc.).
